Choosing Love

Love is commonly thought of as something you fall into and out of. Everybody wants some, and plenty of people will offer to teach you how to get some, for a fee. There are degrees of love, from puppy to mother’s. Analysts are paying their mortgages listening to their clients’ complaints of not enough love in childhood.

What if love wasn’t some random thing that you felt sometimes, but not others? What if the people around you didn’t need to look a certain way or behave somehow special for you to love them? What if love was a decision, and the commitment to love came first, followed by the actual loving feelings?
